Term project technical specification

Purpose

Use this design document for the week 4 specification. It turns the proposal into a testable boundary and records decisions that another reader can challenge.

Records

Requirements and acceptance cases

For each requirement, give normal, boundary and failure cases with observable outcomes.

ID Requirement Normal case and outcome Boundary case and outcome Failure case and outcome
R-__

Key decisions

For every decision, record the choice, evidence, and one alternative you rejected. Say what new evidence would make you revisit it.

Decision Chosen approach Rejected alternative and reason Revisit evidence
D-__

Interfaces and data models

Describe inputs, outputs, errors, side effects and permissions for each public interface. Show the data entities, required fields, relationships and invariants. Include a small example for the core scenario; use synthetic values.

Test strategy

Name the unit, integration and end-to-end checks, their fixtures, and the property or invariant each check protects. State how you will run mutation testing and investigate surviving mutants. Identify the regression that should fail on the starting revision.

Agent workflow and gates

List the repository instruction file, hook gate, permitted tools and verification command. Explain what the gate blocks and how you will test both a blocked and an allowed change.

Out of scope

List features, integrations, data and failure modes you will not build for this milestone. Explain how each exclusion protects the core scenario or keeps verification possible.

AI-use note

State the tool and purpose, or state that no AI was used. Reuse the proposal's note ID when it still describes this work.

Review

Check that every requirement has an observable outcome, each decision has a rejected alternative, interfaces agree with the data model, and the test strategy can detect a regression. Record the submitted revision and the decision: accept, narrow, re-check or stop, with evidence links.
